Pathogenicity of E. coli isolated from chicks in laboratory animals.

Pathogenicity of different serotypes of Escherichia coli, isolated from different poultry farms, were compared in albino mice. Serotypes O1, O2 and O78 were the most virulent; O36, O120, O158, O159 and O162 were moderate and O45, O55 and O157 serotypes were the least virulent. Rabbit ileal loop tests indicated that O1 and O2 strains were more enterotoxic than O78 and O158 strains.
