Incidence of strongyloidosis in rabbit.

Four of a group of 15 Chinchilla rabbits maintained in West Bengal, India, developed anorexia, depression and dehydration, and voided mucus and blood with the faeces. Faecal examination revealed strongyloid ova in all 4 rabbits. The rabbits were treated with a single dose of 15% closantel at 10 mg/kg and given an oral rehydration solution for 5 days. The faeces were negative for helminth ova 7 days after anthelmintic treatment and all the rabbits made a full recovery.
