As the Jan.1,2020 deadline requiring that global bunker fuel contain less than 0.5 sulfur draws close, shippers are worrying about fuel compatibility problems in ships' tanks when fuels purchased from different ports:(1)separate in a tank, thereby producing sludge that will clog filters and subsequently damage engines,(2)have large differences in viscosity,(3)contain higher amounts of silicon or aluminum compounds,(4)are blends of aromatic and paraffinic streams from refineries.Other key factors include fuel origin, components, and stability.
