PHARMACOKINETICS AND DOSAGE REGIMEN OF AMIKACIN IN GOATS

Pharmacokinetics and dosage regimen of amikacin were investigated in six lactating goats following single i.v. injection at 10 mg/kg b.w. Plasma level of amikacin was 69.91 +- 3.65 ugil at 2.5 min. and the minimum therapeutic concentration (2ug/ml)was maintained upto 5 hrs Distribution (t_1/2alpha) and elimination (t_1/2 bate) half lives as well as apparent volume of distribution (Vd_ureu) values were 0.52 +-0.02 hrs 2.08 +- 0.01 hrs and 0.40 +- 0.02 L/kg, respectively. The calculated loading (D*)and maintenance (D_0) doses of amikacin sustaining MIC of 2 ug/ml at the dosage interval (y) of 8 hrs were 11.44 +- 0.12m mol/I respectively.
