COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF CUE AND TRIS EXTENDER FOR PRESERVATION OF CAROLE SHEEP SEMEN IN REFRIGERENT AND ROOM TEMPERATURE

Forty ejaculates were collected individually from 40 rams by Artificial Vagina method. Collected semen samples were diluted in Cornell University Extender (CUE) and TVis extender respectively and stored under refrigerant (4-6deg C) and room temperature (25-36 deg C). No significant variation was found between the performance of extenders at Oh. of dilution with regard to percentage of progressively motile, live and abnormal spermatozoa. As the period of preservation increased in both the extenders, there were decrease in the percentage of progressively motile and live spermatozoa while an increase in the abnormal spermatozoa was observed in both the refrigerant and room temperature. Except for percentage of abnormal spermatozoa, performance of CUE was found to be better than Tris extender. It was concluded that the semen of Garole Sheep could be successfully preserved upto 120 h. and 18h. in refrigerant and room temperature respectively with more than 40% progressively motile spermatozoa.
