Strategy to mitigate green fodder shortage for dairy animals under rainfed agriculture - a case study of urea (ammonia) treatment.

In this case study, seven farmers with 21 Murrah buffaloes (9 non-lactating and 12 lactating) were motivated to feed urea treated straw to their animals. After a period of 2 months, three farmers stopped the feeding of treated straw to their animals. However, four farmers continued the feeding of treated straw along with the green fodder to their buffaloes. Observations of farmers on the technology were recorded and the reasons for non-acceptance by the majority of the farmers in the village were studied.
