A new method for solving Maxwell Equations in the time domain, called the symplectic FDTD method, is formulated, discretized, implemented, and verified. This method preserves the symplecticness (preservation of area in the phase space, i.e., preservation of energy or helicity), improves the accuracy of the solution the nigh frequency problem, and reduces the CPU time for this calculation. Moreover, it is applied to efficiently solve the 3-D loss-less cavity resonator TE{sub}101 problem.
