Efficacy of commercial extender Laiciphos PSLS 488 for the deep freezing of crossbred bull semen

A study was conducted to compare the efficacy of Laiciphos extender with the standard Tris buffer for the processing of crossbred bull semen utilizing split ejaculates collected from four crossbred Jersey bulls. In all 1200 doses of semen were produced from the bulls, 600 doses using each of the extenders. Statistical analysis of the data revealed non significant difference, in postthaw revival and fertility rate between the two treatments. The production of frozen semen involves the use of different extenders and protocols for semen processing. Now commercial extenders are available claiming some amount of success in the processing of semen of purebred bulls. The present study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of one commercial extender (Laiciphos PSLS 488) with the Tris buffer for the processing of crossbred bull semen based on fertility rates.
