Influence of age, body weight, egg weight, clutch size and pause on egg production in Japanese quails

The effects of age, body weight and egg weight at first egg, clutch size and pause on weekly egg production upto 20 weeks of age in Japanese quail were examined on hatch corrected data. All these factors significantly influenced the egg production. Early maturity, low body weight and low egg weight groups produced more eggs than late maturity, high body weight and high egg weight groups respectively. High clutch size and low pause groups produced significantly (P<0.01) more eggs than low clutch sizeand high pause groups respectively. There is large variation in the egg production of Japanese quails. A large number of factors are likely to influence it to a great extent. However, no literature could be available regarding the influence of various factors on egg production in Japanese quail. Therefore, the present study was conducted to ascertain the effect of different groups of age, body weight, egg weight, clutch size and pause on weekly egg production in this species.
