Transferring evidence from recent clinical rheumatology studies to those on the front lines.

My thoughts are in harmony with those of the editors of the International Journal of Clinical Practice (IJCP). Starting with Prof Costenbader, the rheumatology editor who pointed out to the main challenges in Rheumatology studies as the underlying pathogenic processes of rheumatic diseases start years before the clinical diagnosis is made and irreversible joint damage and long-term morbidities decrease with prompt, responsible and aggressive treatment with disease-modifying therapy. The significant delay in the recognition and treatment of patients with rheumatic disease (1) is unfortunately at the level of the general practitioner.
