ADOPTION BEHAVIOUR OF RAJBANSHI DAIRY FARMERS IN RELATION TO ANIMAL HUSBANDRY PRACTICES

The present study was carried out in purposively selected Tufanganj-II block of Copch Behar district in West Bengal, India. The block consists of thirteen gram panchayets (GP) from which Barokodali-I GP and Barokodali-II GPwere selected randomly. Fivevillages namely Haripur, Barokodali and Jhingapurni from Barokodali-I GP were selected purposively considering the population of Rajbanshi community. From each of the selected villages twenty dairy farmers were selected randomly out of which both Rajbanshi and Non-Rajbanshi were ten in number. In this way, fifty dairy farmers from Rajbanshi Community and fifty from Non-Rajhanshi Community (total 100 respondents) were selected, which constituted the sample of the present study. The area of the Tufanganj-II block was having the both community people i.e., Rajbanshi and Non-Rajbanshi in relation to livestock farming. The pre-tested structured schedule was administered to the respondents and the responses were recorded during March and April 2005. The researcher himself had taken the interviews of all the livestock owners. The stydy revealed that the attitude towards dairy farming, communication sources, urban contact and education of respondent were the key variables that influence adoption level of theRajbanshi dairy farmers about animal husbandry practices.
