CHANGES IN CERTAIN BLOOD BIOCHEMICAL PROFILES DUE TO DIFFERENT DEGREES OF ACIDOSIS IN GOATS

Some important blood biochemical profiles viz. blood lactic acid, blood glucose, serum chloride, serum sodium and serum potassium were estimated in clinical cases of different degrees of acidosis (mild, moderate and severe) in twenty seven goats and compared statistically with the corresponding values in six healthy control goats to find out the difference during acidosis. Blood lactic acid and blood glucose levels were significantly (P<0.05 and P<0.01, respectively) higher in all the three groups ofacidotic goats than normal control goats. Serum chloride and serum sodium levels in healthy control goats were almost similar to the mild acidotic group but significantly (P<0.05) lower than moderate and severe acidotic goats. In contrast, serum potassium levels in healthy control goats and mild acidotic goats were significantly (P<0.05) higher than in moderate and severe acidotic goats.
