INTRANASAL ANAESTHESIA WITH XYLAZINE - KETAMINE IN RABBITS

摘要

Six adult Soviet Chinchilla rabbits weighing 1.5-2 kg were distributed randomly in Latin Square method for conducting 36 numbers of drug trials dividing into two equal groups. Xylazine Hcl (4mg/kg b.wt) and Ketamine Hcl (30mg/kg b.wt.) were drawn in single syringe and administered in Group I and Group II through intramuscular and intranasal route respectively. Onset of anaesthesia was quite faster in Group 11. Rectal temperature, respiration rate, pulse rate and heart rate decreased significantly inboth groups but were within normal physiological limits. Significant decrease in haemoglobin (Hb) %, total erythrocyte count (TEC) and total leucocytes count(TLC) were also observed in both the groups. The variations in the values of alanine amino transferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST) and serum glucose and serum creatinine levels were noticed during the experiment but ranged within normal physiological limits. The Electrocardiogram (ECG) tracings in both the groups did not suggested any cardiac pathology. Intranasal administration of anaesthesia appeared better than intramuscular route in some aspects.
