Australia's first synthetic fuels complex, the A$5MM ($5.3MM) Synfuel and Catalysis Research Facility, called Syncat, commenced operations on June 9. The facility will be able to produce synfuels from a variety of feeds including biomass, coal, hydrogen, and natural gas. Located at the Australian Resources Research Centre in Perth, Syncat is part of project that is being carried out by the government's research division CSIRO.
