An 8-year-old girl had fever and pain in the right distal femur of 3-weeks' duration. She was treated with intravenous antibiotics. Follow-up radiography of the right knee obtained 1 year later showed destructive changes with disruption in the physis of the right distal femur. Radionuclide studies confirmed the diagnosis of destruction of the growth plate, with implications of shortening of the right femur in the future.
