Pyrolytic carbon is known to exhibit a broad variety of microstructures. Therefore, a clear characterisation and especially a clear description of the microsctructures are a precondition to establish scinetifically based correlations, not only with physical and mechanical properties, but also with chemistry and kinetics of their formation 1-3 or with depositin conditions 4,5.
