摘要

Tall containers used for the storage of grains are often called silos. To avoid problems associated with the gravity discharge of grains, silos are to be designed for mass-flow by evaluating flow characteristics of the grains to be stored. In India, some the companies started using silos for the storage of food grains. In this paper, characteristics of typical Indian grains (paddy and wheat) such as bulk density, effective angle of internal friction and wall angle of friction against mild steel and stainless steel are evaluated using a Jenike-Schulze ring shear tester. Silos are designed based on the flow characteristics.
