Polycrystalline semiconductor materials, as exemplified by sprayhyphen;deposited and vacuumhyphen;deposited cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films, have been studied in the liquidhyphen;junction photovoltaic cell to determine the openhyphen;circuit voltage (Voc) and the power conversion efficiency (eegr;). For the sprayhyphen;deposited film cell (CdS/1.25MNaOHndash;0.2Mthinsp;Na2S/C), theVocand eegr; were found to be 0.6 V and 0.038percnt;, respectively. For the vacuumhyphen;deposited film cell, theVocand eegr; were found to be 0.71 V and 0.054percnt;. Both type cells have the anomalous increase of photocurrent with voltage under anodic bias.
