The authors have carried out, over a period of 4 years, an experiment in the psychological training of medical students, making use of the Balint group. The somewhat different teaching methods which came into force after the events of May 1968 have brought about very little change in our findings, as compared with those recorded prior to that date. No more than 40 of students refuse to attend the group (which is not compulsory). A further 30 show a more or less limited interest in the group. The remaining 30 attend willingly, but only one-half of these are truly keen and persevering.
