Johnson Matthey Expects Sharp Rise in platinum Demand for Autos & Jewelry

New York, New York-In its Platinum 1994 Interim Review, published recently, Johnson Matthey predicts that, once all information has been collected and processed, world demand for platinum in 1994 will have risen by 7 percent to a new peak of 4.32 million ounces due to record consumption by the jewelry and "Supplies of platinum will be lower than expected at 4.385 million ounces, virtually unchanged from 1993," the Review states, adding that the surplus of supply over demand will narrow significantly to 65,000 ounces.
