ABSTRACTAn improved semiautomated enzymatic procedure employing L‐ly‐sine decarboxylase for the analysis of lysine is described. Carbon dioxide formed in the reaction mixture is separated by a gas dialyzel and measured calorimetrically by the phenolphthalein method. Certain vitamins, amino acids, and metal ions, when added to lysine standard solution and analyzed by the present procedure, caused a decrease in both sensitivity and reproducibility. The procedure developed is capable of analyzing 30 samples per hour. The mean recovery of added lysine was 94
