The elastic, electronminus;Hg scattering measurements of Bromberg show a Bornminus;like scaling in the 200minus;500 eV energy range. The calculations presented here show that this scaling is present in the static approximation and that the general feature is a shoulder in the energy dependence of the smallminus;tominus;moderateminus;momentumminus;transfer differential cross section. This shoulder for Hg is predicted to be a part of a general structure in the elastic, electronminus;scattering cross sections for elements near Au in the periodic table.
