The major field gradient directions for Cl inparahyphen;chlorophenol as determined by NQR and xhyphen;ray diffraction are compared quantitatively, and found to agree. The minor field gradient directions are examined qualitatively, and are consistent with those predicted on the basis of Clsngbnd;C partial double bonding. From a measurement of the field gradient asymmetry parameter eegr;, the degree of chlorinemdash;carbon double bonding is calculated to be 0.038plusmn;0.004.
