Perturbations of this level by the nearbyAthinsp;1Pgr; state make this particularethinsp;3Sgr;minus;larr;Xthinsp;1Sgr;+transition strong. Resonance of the SI line with theethinsp;3Sgr;minus;minus;Xthinsp;1Sgr;+transition is destroyed by substitution of13CO for12CO, but13CO has a very strong resonance, with a different SI line, in theAthinsp;1Pgr; larr;Xthinsp;1Sgr;+system. The behavior of the observed emission intensities as a function of varying the CO and inert gas pressures indicates that collisionally induced crosshyphen;relaxation processes between theAthinsp;1Pgr; andethinsp;3Sgr;minus;states are extremely rapid, their frequencies being greater than gas kinetic collision frequency in the case of CO.
