In the Voigt configuration of electromagnetic wave propagation, for components perpendicular to the magnetic field, the secular equation describing the wave instability is theoretically analyzed. The operating frequency is in the infrared or submillimeter range. Within the magnetic field the electron‐cyclotron motion is proposed to be able to interact with an optical wave, giving rise to amplification. There are two kinds of amplification. One appears when the plasma frequency (ohgr;p) is larger than the cyclotron frequency (ohgr;c), and the other when ohgr;p展开▼
