摘要

Invasion and colonization of xylem vessels by pathogens in plants may be controlled by the genes and influenced by environment (Singh et al. 1987). Vascular-bundle discoloration has been used as an index of susceptibility and resistance to Fusarium oxysporum (Smith and Synder 1971). However, our studies indicate that it may not be true in the case of chickpea plants infected with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri (FOC). Dispersal of Fusarium within the vascular system and the extent of its development in different segments of plants is another criteria to evaluate resistance (Salleh and Owen 1983). Therefore, during this experiment, we compared the vascular discoloration with the extent of development of FOC in chickpea under field conditions.
