Cement demand in Ecuador has been rising steadily and is expected to maintain growth on the back of the state's efforts to improve infrastructure and combat poverty. To keep apace with this market expansion, in May 2009 Lafarge inaugurated a new production line at its Otavalo plant. Details of this impressive 120 million US dollars project are presented in this article, together with an overview of recent domestic industry developments.
