This study tests the feasibility of various reactions which could lead to environmental methylation of lead compounds. We tested the reactivity of Pb2+in water toward atrans‐dimethylcobalt (III) complex, methylcobalamin, methyl iodide, and three models for S‐adenosylmethionine. Reactions of Pb2+with thetrans‐dimethylcobalt (III) complex resulted in tetramethyllead, but we did not detect it in reactions of the other reagents with Pb2+.
