An analysis is made of the characterstics of ferrite films for normally incident electromagnetic plane waves. Four characteristic matrices are found which can be used to determine the transmission behavior. Two of the matrices correspond to circular polarization (longitudinal magnetization), while the others correpsond to perpendicular and parallel linear polarization (transverse magnetization). Formulas are presented for the reflection and transmission coefficients and Faraday rotation in lossy multilayer ferrite films. The reflectivity and Faraday rotation are evaluated for specific examples.
