The distribution of photoelectron trajectories has been measured with unpolarized resonance emission from helium and argon, modulated atomic beams of cadmium and zinc, a sectorhyphen;focusing photoelectron energy analyzer, and digital counting and demodulation techniques. The autoionizing transitions at 1048 Aring; to produceCdplus;2S1sol;2andZnplus;2S1sol;2and the direct ionization at 584 Aring; to produceCdplus;2D5sol;2all result in electronhyphen;trajectory distributions which are close tocos2thgr;with respect to the electric vector of the radiation. Ionization at 584 Aring; to produceCdplus;2D3sol;2results in an isotropic distribution. For cadmium the ratio of total cross sections to produce2D5sol;2thinsp;sol;thinsp;2D3sol;2is1.06thinsp;plusmn;thinsp;0.07.
