We acknowledge the substantial task of acquiring and interpreting the large body of data undertaken by Glen et al. (2013). While we agree that the area of northwestern New South Wales referred to in the paper as the Thomson Orogen had a shared geological history with the Lachlan Orogen after the mid Silurian, we contend that the evidence provided for different pre-mid Silurian geological histories is far from strong.
