In drilling and production technology, a large number of components are subjected to aggressive and abrasive media at high temperatures. Especially in deep geothermal applications, these media can also be highly corrosive. Therefore, appropriate high-performance, wear resistant materials and material systems have to be developed. For studies on wear of these high-performance material systems the Institute Dynamics and Vibrations (IDS) has designed and built up an innovative Hydroabrasion Test Stand. Using this highly variable test stand, a range from downscaled specimens up to complete assemblies, e. g. a ball valve, can be tested in corrosive and aggressive media under variable temperature and flow conditions. First results of developed test procedures will be shown, demonstrating the effectivity of wear generation and analysis. This test stand is a very effective tool for material design.
