Probabilistic Study of Tensile Properties of Coir Fiber Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composite

A study has been carried out to investigate the probable range of tensile strength of a coir fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite. The composite specimens of 2 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm thickness with 7.5 %, 10 %, 15 %, 20 % and 30 % fiber volume fractions were studied. The composite of 20 % fiber volume fraction have shown highest tensile strength. Tensile strength of coir fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite follows the normal distribution, is also presented. More than 99 % probability tensile strength values of 20 % fiber volume fraction's coir fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite of the 2 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm thicknesses ranged between 8.89 MPa to 12.2 MPa, 11.5 MPa to 16.65 MPa and 15.64 MPa to 20.8 MPa respectively.
