The deviation in saturation magnetization (Ms) from the Slaterhyphen;Pauling curve for Cohyphen;Cr films was confirmed from several points of view, and was clarified not to be caused by some experimental imperfection, such as the use of a composite target or residual oxygen. There existed a critical value of Cr content, 13 at.thinsp;percnt;, where the films changed their homogeneity. This critical value was interpreted as corresponding to the Cr solubility limit in the hexagonal closehyphen;packed (hcp) solid solution on the phase diagram reported by Hansen lsqb;ConstitutionofBinaryAlloys(McGrawhyphen;Hill, New York, 1958), p. 466rsqb;, which has 13 at.thinsp;percnt; Cr solubility limit and twohyphen;phasehyphen;mixture area from 13 to 57 at.thinsp;percnt; Cr contents below 500thinsp;deg;C. The temperature dependence ofMswas also consistent with the tendency of the Hansen phase diagram.
