An analysis is presented which demonstrates that a vertical multijunction solar cell with covering lens does have optimum dimensions. The analysis does point out that the optimum dimensions would indeed eliminate any dark junctions in series with illuminated junctions for maximum efficiency. Thus, backhyphen;tohyphen;backphyphen;njunctions should not be designed into a solar cell.
