The hcp-ordered phase of Fe{sub}3Pt thin films is successfully synthesized and shows a very large sixfold basal plane magnetic anisotropy of the order of 10{sup}5 erg/cc. This in-plane magnetic anisotropy depends on the deposition temperature and its trend is similar to the change in the integrated intensity of the superlattice peak of Fe{sub}3 Pt. Therefore, there is a correlation between the ordering and the magnetic anisotropy.
