Commercial poultry breeding of any size in the private sector of the Vietnamese industry is still in its infancy. However, because of the economies of scale and the desire for the poultry sector to expand, the future potential in this south east Asiancountry for private breeders is good. Currently small family run farms produce 70% of the poultrymeat eaten in the country and they take their chicks from state and privately owned breeders. Recently International Hatchery Practice visited Vietnam and used the opportunity to visit a private breeder on the edge of Ho Chi Minn City, the former Saigon.
