The rotational magnetic moment spectrum of SF6has been studied by the molecular beam magnetic resonance method. The transitions observed involve the reorientation of the rotational angular momentum relative to an external magnetic field in the high field limit. The magnitude and sign of the rotationalghyphen;factorgJand of the average fluorine spin rotation constantcahave been determined. The results aregJ=minus;(0.03732plusmn;0.00005) nm andca=minus;(5.27plusmn;0.40) kHz. The applications of these results to the paramagnetic part of the average nuclear shielding constant, to the paramagnetic part of the molecular magnetic susceptibility, to the electronic term ingJ, and to fluorine spinndash;lattice relaxation experiments in SF6are discussed.
