The papers presented in this special issue of the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation (JAG) are the outcome of the 12th Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium, held in Levi, Kittil?, Finland, 14–18 May 2012. The theme of the meeting was “Polar regions in transformation; climatic change and anthropogenic pressures”.
