Paramagnetism of Uranyl Ion. Effect of 6dOrbitals and Pi Bonding

Secondhyphen;order perturbation calculations of the paramagnetism of OUO++ion were done. The contribution from pi bonds may be considerable. Although a bonding scheme utilizing only the 6dand 7sorbitals of U could account for experimental values, some involvement of 5forbitals is suggested. There is no clearhyphen;cut evidence for strong involvement of 5forbitals in bonds.
