Making a difference to patients' lives

The importance of evidence-based practice became apparent from the onset of my training. As a healthcare assistant I performed many tasks and procedures, but I never really understood their importance. It wasn't until I began studying at university that I began to gain a greater awareness and understanding of how essential evidence-based practice is.Starting university at the age of 36 was somewhat daunting, but nevertheless an exciting time. I was happily married with two wonderful children, but the thought of juggling a full-time course on top of family commitments did add to the nerves. However, it was a lifelong ambition, so through sheer determination and commitment I was able to put all my past experience to good use, enabling me to fully engage in the academic learning required.
