Understanding pain

In my opinion, the best people to manage pain are nurses; we are there are 24-7, we have advanced skills in being able to empathise with the people we care for and we are often privy to intimate information about the person. In addition to this, our growing nursing knowledge base places us in an ideal position to offer patients and carers help to manage pain, however, there is still room for improvement.
