It has come to the point in my nursing degree I have been fearful of and excited about in equal measure for the past 2 years. It's dissertation time! Like most other third year students, I have started to consider ideas, plan a schedule and begin work on the early stages of my dissertation. There are many factors that make it daunting: the large number of credits it is worth towards your degree classification, the intimidating word count (mine is 9000), undertaking independent research and wondering where to actually start as it is such an enormous project. This dissertation is going to be the most challenging, yet rewarding piece of academic work that you as a student nurse have ever undertaken. It is important to get it right. Many students find it difficult to understand what a dissertation actually is, I know that I did.
