Can nurses stem the rising tide of alcohol abuse?

Between 2007 and 2008, more than 30000 people were admitted to hospital with alcohol poisoning. So powerful is the evidence for a reduction in alcohol consumption by all sectors of society, that Change4Life (2012) has launched its first alcohol campaign to raise awareness of the associated health dangers. Launched on 5 February 2012, the new nationwide campaign aims to highlight that drinking, even slightly, over the current alcohol guidelines may cause significant long-term health problems (Department of Health (DH), 2012a)
