Traditional teat dipping and spraying has been responsible, in part, for significant reduction in somatic cell counts in milk over the last 30 years. Modern high yield farming methods impose conditions on milk production however, which demand even greater attention to detail and better hygiene security in the milking parlour. Recent trends indicate a reduction in the percentage of farms achieving low somatic cell counts. In order to continue improving milk quality additional procedures are now required.
