Dealing with difficult doctors is not easy, and often many nurses shrink away from conflict situations because they are too intimidated to fight back. Unfortunately, despite years of study and comment, there is still a feeling that some doctors regard nurses as their hand-maidens. To explain this attitude as just a battle of feminine and masculine identity would be very short-sighted as studies have suggested that there is more to the nurse/doctor relationship than following a medical model of treatment.
