A simple thermodynamic model accounts for the strong curvature experimentally observed in the sim;150 GPa phase transition boundary of solid hydrogen, yielding estimates for the average phonon vibrational frequency at the transition and the zero temperature transition pressure of 19.7 (plusmn;2.5) THz and 152 (plusmn;3) GPa, respectively. The volume decrease at the transformation is also found to be small, less than sim;2 parts in 104.
