Comparative study of certain haematological parameters in various physiological states in Sahiwal cows.

The animals were divided into 7 groups of 5, by physiological status; Group 1: calves below 6 months of age; group 2: heifers; Group 3: 3-6 month pregnant cows; Group 4: cows in late pregnancy; Group 5: cows after parturition; group 6: cows with anaverage milk yield of 9 litres/day; and group 7: non-productive dry cows of 10-12 years of age. The heifers showed significantly higher values for total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin and packed cell volume than the other groups. The pregnant cows showedsignificantly higher values for mean cell haemoglobin concentration than the other groups.
