Brass or aluminium models of World War Two aircraft, probably made by RAF tradesmen and usually taking the form of Spitfires, Hurricanes, Blenheims and so on, can be bought at no great cost.In 2005 I paid about £2 at a car boot sale for the aluminium model of an early-mark Gloster Meteor shown here. It is typical of the genre, but has a distinctly atypical fin. Gloster initially had some trouble with disturbed airflow around the Meteor's fin/ tailplane junction, eventually fitting a bullet fairing.
