This paper discusses the catalog of diamond tools for mechanically processing optical items. The technical characteristics of the tools for fine grinding are given, including the work capacities. A new generation of diamond tools based on highly filled elastomeric composites has been developed. Based on the correlations established between the composition, the physicomechanical properties of the composites, and the work capacities of the tool, tools have been developed for processing the basic catalog of optical glasses and a number of crystalline materials (silicon carbide, synthetic sapphire, quartz, fluorite, germanium). An annular tool has been developed for superfine grinding, using the rigid-axes method, which provides a surface roughness down to 0.05-0.03 mu m.
